Microsoft Modern Workplace Architect – Contract – Remote

Datafin is looking for a hands-on Microsoft Modern Workplace Architect – Contract – Remote to lead the design and implementation of a new environment from the ground up for a multi-site hotel project. This greenfield project requires an expert who can operate at an architectural level while staying technically involved throughout the implementation phase. You will be responsible for the end-to-end technical design covering identity, endpoint management, Windows infrastructure, security, and site networking to create a secure, repeatable blueprint for multiple hotel locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and establish Microsoft Entra ID from scratch, including tenant design, federation, authentication, identity security, and Conditional Access.
• Define and implement the most appropriate cloud-only or hybrid identity models.
• Design and deploy Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot in a live production environment.
• Architect the Windows infrastructure approach using Windows Server 2019–2025 and Hyper-V where necessary.
• Design a modern environment that minimizes or removes the reliance on traditional Active Directory and domain controllers.
• Identify and address application, authentication, DNS, and infrastructure dependencies that impact a domainless or cloud-first environment.
• Use PowerShell and Microsoft Graph to develop repeatable deployment and configuration processes.
• Define essential site networking requirements, including VLANs, VPNs, firewall rules, DHCP, and DNS.
• Establish and document security, endpoint management, and access standards across all sites.
• Produce clear architecture diagrams, configuration standards, and implementation procedures.
• Remain hands-on during testing, implementation, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate closely with project stakeholders, vendors, and technical partners.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Proven architecture-level experience with Microsoft Entra ID, specifically regarding greenfield tenant design.
• Demonstrable production experience implementing Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot.
• Deep understanding of Active Directory, hybrid identity, and cloud-only identity architectures.
• Experience in designing and implementing Microsoft environments from the ground up.
• Strong proficiency in Windows Server 2019–2025 and Hyper-V.
• Advanced scripting skills using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph.
• Solid grasp of networking principles, including VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, DHCP, and DNS.
• Ability to translate complex, high-level architecture into practical, hands-on technical solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
