Data & Analytics Lead Opportunity at PBT Group
PBT Group is currently seeking an experienced Data & Analytics Lead to join our consulting team in Cape Town. This is a pivotal role for a senior professional who thrives on shaping and delivering modern data solutions for our clients. As a hands-on leader, you will operate at the intersection of Data Architecture, Data Engineering, Data Science, and Application Architecture, providing technical vision and guidance across multiple teams and stakeholders.
The Role
The successful candidate will define and execute data strategies and architectural roadmaps, ensuring that our data platforms are scalable, secure, and governed. You will act as a bridge between technical execution and business objectives, providing architectural direction to BI and IT teams while engaging directly with senior stakeholders. We are looking for an individual who seamlessly transitions between high-level strategic architecture and hands-on technical problem-solving within modern cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and drive comprehensive Data & Analytics strategies and implementation roadmaps.
- Provide technical leadership to Data Engineering, Data Science, and BI teams.
- Mentor technical staff while promoting engineering best practices.
- Design and govern robust data platforms, including data warehouses, data lakes, and analytics environments.
- Provide architectural guidance for cloud and hybrid-cloud infrastructures, specifically within Azure and AWS.
- Lead the adoption of modern technologies, including Microsoft Fabric.
- Direct technical efforts in data ingestion, integration, transformation, and orchestration.
- Maintain rigorous standards for data modelling, architecture, governance, and quality.
- Collaborate with Application Architects to ensure seamless integration between data and application layers.
- Assess existing environments to recommend effective modernisation and migration strategies.
- Partner with Data Science teams to enable scalable AI and machine learning solutions.
- Support the integration of Generative AI, identifying practical business applications for our clients.
- Drive proof-of-concepts and evaluate emerging technologies for project applicability.
- Establish and refine technical development standards and architectural governance.
- Contribute to technical pre-sales, solution estimation, and client engagements.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Requirements
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of experience within Data & Analytics, Data Engineering, or BI environments.
- Significant, proven experience in Data Architecture or Solution Architecture.
- A strong background in leading or providing technical direction to multidisciplinary data teams.
- Extensive experience with modern data platform architecture, particularly in Azure, with additional exposure to AWS or hybrid environments.
- Practical experience or deep working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric.
- Comprehensive understanding of Data Engineering principles, Application Architecture, and integration.
- Prior experience working alongside Data Science and AI teams to meet their unique requirements.
- Exposure to Generative AI and modern emerging technologies.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and consulting capabilities.
- Previous experience in a consulting environment is considered an advantage.
Advantageous Experience
- Hands-on Microsoft Fabric implementation or migration projects.
- Proven experience in Lakehouse architecture and Enterprise Data Warehouse modernisation.
- Expertise in cloud migration strategies.
- Knowledge of Data Governance and Data Management frameworks.
- Experience with Data Science platform architecture and Generative AI/LLM implementations.
- Background in Application and Integration Architecture.
- Proficiency in technical pre-sales and complex solution design.
- Demonstrated history of leading multi-disciplinary technical teams.
