Route Controller / Driver Debriefer – George, Western Cape

Measured Ability is seeking a highly organized and efficient professional to join our team in George as a Route Controller / Driver Debriefer. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating daily transport operations, planning and monitoring delivery routes, and managing our driving staff. You will play a critical role in ensuring all transport activities are executed safely, compliantly, and in line with our service standards.

Route Planning and Control

  • Plan and coordinate daily delivery schedules to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Monitor vehicle movement throughout the day using GPS and fleet management systems.
  • Provide real-time operational support and maintain constant communication with drivers regarding route progress, potential delays, or changing customer requirements.
  • Proactively re-route vehicles when necessary to ensure all service levels are met.
  • Investigate deviations from planned routes and handle operational escalations.
  • Manage emergency situations, including breakdowns and accidents, while liaising with maintenance providers to reduce vehicle downtime.

Driver and Van Assistant Management

  • Prepare and manage daily rosters for drivers and van assistants, adjusting for leave, shift changes, or staff shortages.
  • Ensure all team members are correctly allocated based on license categories and operational needs.
  • Verify that all drivers hold valid licenses and PDPs before dispatch.
  • Monitor compliance with driving hours, rest periods, and internal company policies.
  • Lead daily briefings to communicate operational updates and safety requirements.

Driver Debriefer Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough driver debriefings upon the completion of each route.
  • Collect and verify all Proof of Delivery (POD) documentation against delivery manifests.
  • Investigate and document any discrepancies, including shortages, damages, or customer queries.
  • Capture debrief data accurately into the Transport Management System.
  • Oversee the processing of returned stock and report any vehicle defects or traffic violations.

Administration and Compliance

  • Maintain precise records for drivers, transport performance, and fuel usage.
  • Prepare daily operational reports regarding delivery performance and vehicle utilization.
  • Ensure all documentation is filed in accordance with company procedures.
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure full compliance with road traffic legislation and internal health and safety standards.
  • Assist with investigations into transport incidents and customer complaints.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Valid Code 10 driver’s license with a PDP.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a transport, logistics, or distribution environment.
  • Proven experience in route planning, fleet control, and transport documentation management.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), Transport Management Systems (TMS), and GPS/Fleet tracking software.
  • A Certificate or Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Transport Management will be highly advantageous.
