Operations Manager – Logistics & Fleet Maintenance
Measured Ability is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team in Camperdown, Mkhambathini, as an Operations Manager – Logistics & Fleet Maintenance. This role is pivotal in ensuring the seamless coordination of our logistics operations and the maintenance of our heavy-duty fleet. The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of technical mechanical expertise and strategic operational leadership to drive vehicle uptime and workshop efficiency.
Minimum Requirements
- A Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Operations Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Trade Test Certificate as a Diesel Mechanic (preferred).
- A minimum of 5–10 years of experience in logistics operations and fleet management.
- Extensive, hands-on experience working in a heavy-duty truck workshop.
- Proven expertise in the maintenance and repair of FAW and Volvo trucks.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising workshop teams and operational staff.
- Proficiency in using fleet management and maintenance software, alongside Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- A valid Code EC driver’s licence is considered advantageous.
Technical Skills
- Advanced diesel engine diagnostics and repair.
- Expertise in heavy vehicle electrical systems, air brakes, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
- Proficiency in transmission and differential repairs.
- Comprehensive knowledge of preventative maintenance planning and fleet management systems.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Fleet Management
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily logistics and workshop operations to ensure optimal vehicle uptime.
- Develop and implement standardized operational procedures and monitor performance metrics.
- Manage operational budgets and exercise strict control over maintenance costs.
- Schedule all preventative maintenance and servicing while monitoring overall vehicle performance.
- Coordinate breakdown responses, manage spare parts inventory, and ensure full compliance with roadworthiness and safety regulations.
Workshop & Technical Leadership
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of diesel mechanics and technicians.
- Allocate work based on technician skill sets and priority levels while ensuring adherence to manufacturer standards.
- Diagnose and resolve complex faults in engines, transmissions, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Provide high-level technical guidance, conduct final inspections on major repairs, and interpret complex wiring diagrams and manuals.
- Implement rigorous quality control measures for all workshop activities and maintain a safe working environment.
FAW & Volvo Truck Expertise
- Execute and oversee all maintenance and repairs specifically for FAW and Volvo fleets.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve mechanical, suspension, and electronic system issues.
- Ensure all repair work strictly complies with manufacturer specifications and warranty requirements.
Staff Development & Stakeholder Management
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and professional growth within the logistics and workshop teams.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and identify ongoing training needs.
- Liaise effectively with customers regarding maintenance timelines and service updates.
- Manage supplier relationships and negotiate with vendors to ensure cost-effective procurement of parts and services.
