Senior Mechanical Engineer in Cape Town
Hire Resolve is partnering with an industry-leading engineering firm that specializes in offshore, oil and gas, and heavy mechanical systems. We are currently searching for a driven Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their expert team in Cape Town. Technical Design Responsibilities (70%)
The core of this position is focused on high-level design and product development. Your daily contributions will include:
- Performing in-house design and complex product development.
- Conducting detailed strength calculations from first principles, utilizing FEA and simulation software as required.
- Executing precise 3D CAD modeling and producing high-quality technical drawings using SolidWorks.
- Generating comprehensive manufacturing data packs, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), Quality Control Plans (QCPs), work instructions, and user manuals.
- Managing vendor relationships and providing technical oversight during the fabrication phase.
Project Management Responsibilities (30%)
Beyond design, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in the project lifecycle, ensuring operational success through:
- Overseeing project management across service, repair, manufacture, design, and CEM lines from initial inception through to final delivery.
- Managing project quotations, execution, procurement, logistics, resource planning, and scheduling.
- Reviewing inspection reports, managing dispositions, and compiling final data books for submission.
- Providing direct oversight on manufacturing processes, quality control, and final project closeout.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this position at Hire Resolve, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town (UCT) or Stellenbosch University.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a mid-level or senior-level mechanical engineering role.
- A proven professional track record within the heavy engineering, offshore, oil and gas, or subsea sectors.
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, specifically regarding 3D modeling, simulation, and technical drafting.
- A genuine, demonstrated passion for mechanical design and complex problem-solving.
