Senior Platform Engineer (CPT) at Sabenza IT & Recruitment

We are currently seeking an experienced professional for a Senior Platform Engineer (CPT) position based in Cape Town. This role is designed for a technical expert with a proven track record of building scalable, production-grade platforms and self-service capabilities that empower engineering teams. Core Expertise

To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the following areas:

• Extensive knowledge of AWS cloud architecture, services, and adherence to the Well-Architected Framework.
• Expertise in developing platform APIs, system-level tooling, and internal developer platforms.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CDK, Pulumi, and Crossplane.
• A deep understanding of container orchestration principles, specifically Kubernetes (CKA certification is preferred).
• Strong capability in designing and operating cloud-native, distributed systems, including navigating complex architectural trade-offs.
• Experience building and maintaining secure, highly available, and scalable platforms within AWS environments.

Professional Requirements

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

• 5+ years of dedicated experience in Platform Engineering, focusing on self-service platforms and abstractions for engineering teams.
• 2–3+ years of hands-on software development experience using languages such as Java, JavaScript, Golang, or Python.
• 6+ years of experience working with Public Cloud, with a primary focus on AWS.
• 6+ years of experience in containerization and container platforms.
• Advanced skills in Kubernetes GitOps practices utilizing ArgoCD/Flux and Helm/Kustomize.
• Practical experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions, including CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and X-Ray.
• A strong grasp of DevOps methodologies and CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or GitLab CI/CD.
• A demonstrated history of building complex, production-grade platforms for self-service consumption.
• Essential hands-on experience with Crossplane, ArgoCD, and Backstage is mandatory for this role.
• Proven, hands-on experience in building Kubernetes Operators is non-negotiable.
