Legal Advisor Opportunity in Cape Town

Capital Edge Recruitment is currently partnering with a prominent financial services firm to appoint an experienced Legal Advisor to their in-house Group Legal team in Cape Town, Western Cape. This is a vital role for a candidate who brings a solid background in asset management and a high level of proficiency in commercial contract drafting.

Key Responsibilities

As a Legal Advisor, you will play a central role in protecting the firm’s interests and ensuring operational compliance. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting and reviewing a wide range of commercial agreements, including service level agreements, distribution contracts, institutional client agreements (such as Portfolio Management Agreements), and third-party service provider contracts.
  • Providing expert legal input and opinions throughout complex contract negotiations.
  • Advising management, internal teams, and clients on general legal and regulatory matters.
  • Supporting the Investment Team by providing guidance on corporate actions, the Companies Act, and JSE Listings Requirements.
  • Assisting with regulatory lobbying efforts and preparing comments on draft legislation.
  • Advising on the intricacies of client mandates and permissible investments.
  • Providing essential support for company secretarial functions and general legal department administration.

Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must be a qualified professional with a track record of success in the financial sector. We are looking for the following:

  • An LLB degree (or equivalent) supplemented by a postgraduate law qualification.
  • Must be a fully admitted attorney.
  • Between 3 to 5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
  • Solid, hands-on experience within the financial services industry, ideally with a specific focus on asset management.
  • Proven ability to draft complex financial services-related agreements.
  • A comprehensive working knowledge of relevant financial services legislation.
  • Strong research capabilities and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • A well-organized, deadline-driven approach with the ability to manage your workload independently.
